Andhra Pradesh Open School Society (APOSS):
The Andhra Pradesh Open School Society was established as an autonomous entity under the Andhra Pradesh Public Societies Act on February 20, 1991, becoming the first State Open School in India.
Objectives of APOSS at its Inception:
- To provide pre-elementary education through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) for school dropouts and those who missed the Upper Primary stage, aiming to achieve Universal Elementary Education (UEE) in the state.
- To offer continuing education to adult neo-literates, working men, and women, helping them maintain functional literacy and preventing relapse into illiteracy.
APOSS offers educational opportunities to those who missed out on formal schooling, as well as individuals interested in pursuing school-level education. It provides a range of courses and programs, including general education, life enrichment, and vocational education, up to the pre-degree level.
Eligibility Criteria:
- For SSC (Secondary School Certificate):
- Students must be at least 14 years old.
- Required documents include one of the following:
- Birth Certificate from a Municipal Office
- Transfer Certificate (TC) if the student has discontinued schooling.
- For Intermediate (10+2):
- Students must have passed SSC or an equivalent exam, or be intermediate dropouts.
- To complete Intermediate in one year, there must be a one-year gap after SSC (10th).
Note: Certificates issued by APOSS are equivalent to SSC/Intermediate and are valid for higher education and government jobs.
